postmarked Appleby, October 25th., 1903? While the Wouldhave
clock tower is there, the actual lifeboat doesn't seem to be present at
this stage. The message on the card reads "Do not wear shoes as
they are to [sic] much".

memorial clock tower was erected in commemoration of the jubilee of
Queen Victoria and as a memorial of the lifeboat first designed and
built in South Shields in 1790. It was inaugurated in 1890.

19th., 1949. The inscription includes a comment that the
weather was nice, but not too hot. While July 1949 was a warm month,
round about the 19th., was a cooler period after a period of much
higher temperatures.

and Henry Greathead, both of whom were
